Honda has reintroduced itself to the SUV market with the unveiling of the Elevate in New Delhi. Previously, Honda had the CR-V and BR-V in its India portfolio. The Elevate will be available for booking from July 2023, with the price announcement following thereafter.
1. The Elevate is equipped with the same 1.5-litre petrol engine found in the City.
2. A full EV powertrain will be available in the future.
3. Competitors of the Elevate include the Creta, Seltos, Kushaq, and others.
4. Bookings will open in July, followed by the launch.
In terms of dimensions and design, the Elevate shares similarities with the overseas CR-V. It has a length of 4,312mm, width of 1,790mm, height of 1,650mm, and a wheelbase of 2,650mm, making it similar in size to the Creta. The Elevate offers 458 litres of boot space and a segment-leading ground clearance of 220mm, surpassing the Creta's 190mm.
Regarding its design, the Elevate showcases a large grille and a flat nose with a prominent Honda logo in the center. Thin LED headlights and fog lamps complement the front. The side profile displays slightly flared wheel arches with thick plastic cladding, giving it a robust SUV appearance. The window line slopes upward towards the C-pillar. It is equipped with 17-inch alloy wheels similar to those on the facelifted City.
At the rear, the Elevate features a slightly sloping window and connected tail-lights with a red bar. The wraparound tail-lights resemble those on the latest-gen WR-V. There is also an indentation on the tailgate for the number plate.
Inside the Elevate, there is a freestanding 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system. In terms of features, it offers a single-pane sunroof, a 7-inch semi-digital instrument cluster, lane-watch camera, wireless charging, wireless smartphone integration (Android Auto and Apple CarPlay), and a rear parking camera.
The Elevate incorporates Honda's Sensing ADAS suite, which includes collision mitigation braking system, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, road departure warning, and automatic high beam assist. Currently, the MG Astor is the only other midsize SUV to feature ADAS, but the Seltos facelift will also have driver assistance technology.
Built on Honda's Global Small Car platform, the Elevate shares the same 121hp, 145Nm, 1.5-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine as the City. Power is transmitted to the front wheels through either a 6-speed manual or a CVT. Additionally, Honda has confirmed plans to introduce an electric powertrain for the Elevate within the next three years.
The Elevate enters the competitive midsize SUV segment, competing against the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, MG Astor, and the upcoming Citroen C3 Aircross. Honda's re-entry into the SUV market is a significant move, considering its current lineup consists only of two sedans. Pricing will play a crucial role in the success of the Elevate, given the fierce competition. Honda has yet to announce the prices, but an announcement is expected in the coming months.
India serves as the production hub for the Elevate, which will also be exported to various international markets.
